This whole series had been a tale of goaltending. Tim Thomas a 38 year old man who many thought already wrapped up the Conn Smythe Trophy vs. Roberto Luongo who has a gold medal in his pocket, but had played less than spectacular in this Finals. The first period was intense and nerve wracking, big hits delivered, tight defense, and good goaltending. It looked to be a defensive battle until Patrice Bergeron fired a one-timer into the net on a sexy pass from Brad Marchand who has one of the biggest noses in the league. And unfortunately for LUUUUU and the rest of Vancouver, it did not stop there. The Bruins spanked Vancouver in their own building. Marchand had 2 goals and an assist, Bergeron had 2 goals, and Tim Thomas stayed strong with his third shutout of the series.
The Stanley Cup was given to 6ft 9in. slovak Zdeno Chara who next to Gary Bettman looked like Big Foot with his beard, except pictures of Chara come out clear and not blurry. He hoisted Lord Stanely's Cup and screamed with happiness, then handed it off to Mark Recchi who screamed, "Fucking Right!" as the 43 year old held the cup to enjoy his last game in the NHL. It was a mediocre game 7, but a great hockey year. There were ups and downs, suspensions and successes, injuries and comebacks, but no doubt a year to remember.
More analysis to come for this hockey year, but to leave you all tonight with one last reason why hockey is the greatest sport in the world, and why the BEAUTIFUL Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy in sports to win I leave you with this video from CBC. Keep it Real, Keep it Fresh, Keep it Real Fresh goodnight and enjoy:
